A still of an orangey red sand dessert dune sits in the bottom left corner of the screen with clear blue soup peaking out to the top left corner framed on a white background. The image is designed to be viewed like from a phone screen.

Briana Pegado

I am a multidisciplinary artist and writer. My work explores our relationship to the cycles of life, death, and rebirth. Through my lived experiences of trauma and grief, my work explores how we navigate the world through the realms of the uncertain and unseen. My most recent work in progress is The Artist Is Mourning: Part 1, a series that explores my relationship to grief as a result of losing my father in 2020 through found footage, poetry, spoken word, and performance. This work was shown as part of Embassy Gallery’s moving image exhibition in 2022, performed at Fruitmarket Gallery in September of that year, and featured in the October issue of the Skinny Magazine. The work was developed as part of a residency at Sierra Metro gallery in Leith earlier that year. As a creative practitioner, I work with arts organisations as an anti-racism facilitator, governance specialist, and strategy development consultant from an intersectional lens. I am also the chair of the Culture Fair Work Taskforce for the Scottish Government. I was founder of the Edinburgh Student Arts Festival (ESAF) from 2014-2017 and have worked as Director of Creative Edinburgh, Co-Director of We Are Here Scotland CIC, and Creative Director of Fringe of Colour Films.
