Cryptic Behaviour

I use a variety of methods to make jewellery and wearable pieces including 3d printing, lasercutting but the majority of my work is made with a method called soft soldering which uses methods traditionally associated with stained glass.

All pieces feature up-cycled materials such as broken potter found mudlarking, local Scottish stone, beads and components harvested from broken second hand jewellery, or vintage buttons.

Any pottery is shaped by hand, copper foil applied, and then given its solder form. Im the third generation to use these skills as my father makes stained glass as did his great uncle. I still use some of my great great uncles tools!

Im really inspired by nature, and the medium of soft soldering and the unique and unpredictable effects that it produces. Im often also inspired by the patina and pattern of the pottery I find, and the beads I harvest from broken jewellery. It brings me a lot of joy seeing objects that would otherwise be ignored being given a new lease of life!
