Eilidh Steel
Eilidh Steel is an award winning Scottish fiddler and composer, known for her beautifully expressive and stylistic playing. Eilidh is from Helensburgh on the West Coast of Scotland and started playing at the age of six. She grew up immersed in traditional and classical music, gaining the experience of touring in the UK and abroad with bands from the age of 16. Since graduating from the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, where she received a scholarship to study a BA Honours degree in Scottish music, Eilidh has carved out an impressive career for herself as a performer, composer and tutor. She has always had a great interest in the west Highland fiddle tradition and a particular interest in music from her local area which she continues to research.
She is one half of the fiddle / guitar / song duo Eilidh Steel and Mark Neal. She has been on several recordings and curated a book which she self published called ‘West Highland Tunes For Beginner Fiddlers’
She has a Patreon page, ‘Tune Tuesday’, where she teaches Scottish tunes by ear to fiddle players throughout the word via video and there are now around 170 tunes available to learn. She is also a part time tutor at the Royal Conservatoire Scotland where I teach traditional fiddle and groupwork.
