A tiny sculpture of a grey seal is held between my finger tips. The seal is 4cm long and is crafted from fine cotton sewing thread. This piece forms part of a series of micro-mammals, in which I freehand crocheted one UK mammal a day for seven days.

Kate Larsen-Daw

A poet and artist, I explore the details and fragility of our world, with a focus on nature and mental health. Working primarily in traditional textile crafts, I create tiny sculptures inspired by nature, using fine cotton sewing thread and a 0.5mm hook.
Since moving to the Highlands in 2023 I have found renewed impetus to develop my work, and to explore the interconnected web of words, craft and the natural world.
