Image shows a close-up of a silhouetted person wearing dark clothing, kneeling in front of an upstanding projection screen and on floor that is covered with reflective material. Their arm is outstretched towards the screen, holding a microphone towards a projection of poetic text.

Louisa Love

LOUISA LOVE is an Edinburgh-based artist and producer working experimentally in sound, music, sculptural practice and collaborative/curatorial activity. Her practice is guided by interests in the intersections and instabilities of thought, matter, language and place and how these are transmitted through the sonic. In particular, she explores the material dimensions of sound, listening and orality as an kind of archaeological practice – a means to move beyond words or cohesive thought to find the enigmatic connections between people/bodies, nature, land, technologies and their specific histories, qualities and stories. Her solo and collaborative work is presented across site-specific projects, exhibitions, performances and radio broadcasts. As a curator/producer she has worked on numerous community-led arts and heritage projects in the public realm, including as a co-director of Dover Arts Development.

Since 2018, Louisa primarily works collaboratively with Clive McLachlan Powell as sound artist duo OOR_Scintilla. Drawing on ancient origins and folk narratives, they work improvisationally with a combination of traditional and contemporary approaches to music and sound to explore hybrid and unstable conditions. Their projects often involve direct engagement with specific histories, communities and environments in Scotland.
