Luke ‘Luca’ Cockayne
Luke ‘Luca’ Cockayne (he/they) is a conceptual artist, writer, and curator based in the Southside of Glasgow.
His work explores themes of mental health, sexuality, gender, and the body, and often uses his own personal trauma and experiences as a starting point. He takes a ‘continuous curation’ approach in his shows, attempting to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of both the audience and the artistic team, and likes to include interactive and collaborative elements.
As he moves away from autobiographical work he’s become increasingly interested in how visual art can not just raise awareness of mental health issues and other difficult topics, but actually help reduce emotional distress.
“Luca’s work is about uncovering what’s hidden, uncomfortable, and sometimes dangerous; bringing human darkness into the light” Sioned Ellis, Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival
