Nicolpops

Hi, I’m Nic (better known around the web as ‘Nicolpops’). Beastie maker, illustrator and printmaker from Aberdeen, Scotland. Autistic goblin, and big fan of spooky things.

I’ve found creating tactile things by hand the best way to reset my nervous system, which being autistic, is almost always on edge. I find the process of making to be even more rewarding than the end results a lot of the time! The main materials I like to work with for my fibre creatures include wool felt, faux sherpa and wool roving – although I love experimenting and finding new ways of creating my unique creatures.

Print making is a new skill I’ve taught myself the last couple of years. The slow process of carving is incredibly cathartic. My favourite inks are Cranfield Caligo Safe Wash for paper prints, or Speedball Fabric inks.

Inspiration has stemmed from years of collecting toys, watching cartoons and playing video games – usually finding solace in characters that are typically the anti-hero. The last year or so I’ve been researching more into folklore.

What I love most about creature making is when clients find one of my creatures that personally resonates with them and hearing their story.
