Neuk Local

Neuk Local is our new programme supporting volunteers to run events in their local area with a focus on creativity and community!

Supported by the Improving Access Fund, we are aiming to develop peer-led events for neurodivergent artists across Scotland, up until March 2027. Events will be run by ND artists for ND artists and provide a valuable space to connect, create and support each other.

The events will always centre around a creative exercise – whether that be felt-making, music making, building a time-capsule – or anything else to get creative! It’s an opportunity to give something a go that you might have never tried before.

The events will be entirely led by volunteers who will research, plan and deliver the events in their local area, with support for our Neuk Local Coordinator. We are excited to bring more events to ND artists and to expand our work to more regions and communities.

The aim is to make it easier for members to connect with other neurodivergent creatives close to home. We have already seen in the Central Belt how important these meetups can be. They help people connect, share experiences, and build a sense of community in their local area. We would love to see more of these spaces developing across Scotland.

Neuk Local meetups are:

    • Volunteer-led – shaped by local knowledge and circumstances.

    • Flexible – they do not need to look the same everywhere

    • Collective – a way for members to actively shape the life of Neuk.

    • Supported by the staff team – volunteers are never expected to do this alone

Keep your eyes on our events section of the website to see a Neuk Local events coming up soon.

GET INVOLVED WITH YOUR NEUK LOCAL!

We have developed a Neuk Local handbook for volunteers who would like to organise meetups. This covers everything from planning events, facilitating a safe and inclusive space, access, safeguarding, risk assessments and more! The staff team would also be there to support you with the admin side of things.

If you would like to volunteer with Neuk Local, and be a part of creating an event, please get in touch with anna@doorinthewall.co.uk or apply to be a volunteer using Jotform here.

Please note that the programme is still in early days! We are just beginning to set up volunteering groups and are currently focusing on a few specific locations. Please do get in touch to register your interest anyway and if you are not in one of the current Neuk Local areas, there are also opportunities to get involved remotely.
